PHILOSOPHY
My general orientation is psychodynamic with a focus on helping clients reorient to greater functionality in the present. I believe that we are each a product of our genetic makeup, life experiences, and the society and culture in which we live and interact. I try to acknowledge each of these components as well as their unique interaction in my understanding of the people with whom I work. With that understanding, I approach therapeutic work through a relational lens, meaning that I assume that our connections with others both facilitate and impair emotional health and wellbeing. Additionally, I view therapy as a process rooted in genuine connection, from which we can work to understand and respond to past and present concerns. Throughout the process, I integrate practical intervention including problem-solving and skills development with efforts to increase self-awareness, insight, and autonomy over one’s thoughts, feelings, and actions.
